Lewis hails from the UK and arrived late last year to re-locate his band We Are Bandicoot to Australia. They are currently breaking into Melbourne’s vibrant live music scene … and already have become noticed as a band with exciting prospects.
Lewis has been playing in bands since he was thirteen. His early training was down the classical guitar path … studying and gaining exam distinctions to Grade 8 level.
He was then invited to audition for England’s top Tertiary Institutions for musicians: The Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music … so he clearly has talent as a guitarist.
Lewis chose to take a Fine Arts degree and graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Leeds University in 2013.
Since then he has been teaching in schools and privately in the South of England. His work in secondary schools included co-ordination of The Rock School Project – a specialist program which developed students 7 – 18 years old through individual tuition then led them on into groups and ensemble playing in bands.
Lewis teaches acoustic, electric and bass guitar students of all ages from beginners to advanced across all genres of music. Having been trained classically then moving through to more contemporary styles: jazz, blues, pop, latin, funk, and rock … he is in a unique position to offer his students a wide range of musical experience.
Being a performing musician, working abroad and now in Melbourne’s esteemed music scene brings yet another level to Lewis’ experience and informs his teaching.
This can only benefit any student lucky enough to take lessons with him.
