Lauris Hing, Principal of Moving Into Music says ” we are delighted to welcome Kieran to our talented staff of teachers”.
Let’s introduce him …
Kieran Colton – Guitar Teacher
B. Mus. (Contemporary) Australian Institute of Music (Syd)
Born into a musical family, Kieran Colton naturally picked up the guitar at age 13 years.
Just two years later he won the inaugural Gulgong guitar competition performing his own compositions. In 2011 Kieran graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Contemporary) from the Australian Institute of Music with particular interest in the areas of improvisation, composition, jazz, technique and music theory. During this time he studied under some of Australia’s most highly acclaimed Jazz musicians including ARIA award winning guitarist James Muller and pianist Greg Coffin. Upon graduating he then travelled to India and studied Indian classical music with world-renowned Grammy nominated Hindustani Slide Guitarist, Debashish Bhattacharya. This knowledge of Eastern music builds upon Kieran’s keen interest in the music of culturally diverse countries and styles, such as blues, afro/cuban, Celtic, Brazilian, afrobeat, reggae and bluegrass.
Kieran has performed at major festivals throughout Australia with his own bands and as a session musician including Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Brunswick Music Festival, Australian World Music Expo, Woodford Folk Festival, National Folk Festival and many others. In 2016 Kieran appeared on a guitar compilation album of folk songs alongside some of Australia’s top acoustic guitarists such as Jeff Lang, Michael Fix and Daniel Champagne.
Sharing his deep passion and wealth of knowledge of the guitar, Kieran has over 15 years experience in helping students unlock their full potential and to realize the joy of playing music. He has taught students from a wide range of ages and levels from young children to older adults. In addition he has prepared and accompanied students for final high school exams and led high school music ensembles.
Kieran’s mission as a teacher is to help his students become fascinated with the guitar and to succeed in maintaining a steady level of continual progress, in turn giving a feeling of gratification and accomplishment to their musical journey.
