Welcome to Yi-Ling Ng | Piano Teacher with Moving Into Music …

Moving Into Music Principal, Lauris Hing is delighted to welcome talented teacher and musician Yi-Ling Ng to the teaching staff.

Yi-Ling joins a cohort of exceptional musicians and outstanding teachers  who make up the Moving Into Music staff.

Here’s more about her:

Yi-Ling Ng

MMusPerformance, BMus/LLB (Melb), LMusA (Pianoforte)

Yi-Ling’s interest in music began at an early age, starting on the piano at the age of 4. By the age of 16, she had achieved her LMusA, as well as being involved in a rich ensemble and chamber music life at Presbyterian Ladies’ College as an accomplished cellist, oboist and choral singer. During this time, she was also active as a student conductor, which continued at university where she conducted Acapollo, a student-focussed a cappella singing group.

Yi-Ling achieved a Masters of Music in Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music in 2019, for which she was the recipient of the Lyn Bromley-Julian Oboe Scholarship. Prior to this, Yi-Ling undertook a combined Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at Monash University.

In addition to teaching, Yi-Ling is an avid composer, arranger and performer, with a particular focus on composing for video games and film. In light of this, she is currently an artistic director with Sinister Creative, a Melbourne-based collective which organises live concerts that celebrate music of this genre. She is also active as a soloist and orchestral performer, performing in local Melbourne orchestras since 2010, including an overseas tour as principal oboe with the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra in 2018-19.

Yi-Ling is passionate about providing students with a musical education tailored to their particular goals and interests, whether it be to instil or celebrate a love of music, achieve technical excellence, or simply to play their favourite song. She strongly believes that learning to make music can reveal a multitude of valuable skills and insights in students of any age.
