Moving Into Music Christmas Concert 1: Sunday 5th December @ 10.30am | Piano Students of Yi-Ling Ng and Nicholas Young

In the Moving Into Music Monthly |December, principal, Lauris Hing wrote:

“December is definitely a time for Optimism!

We are moving back into the outside world by increasing degrees. Moving Into Music lessons resumed face-to-face in the studios as we came closer to the close of the teaching year. We celebrated our achievements, a testament to the quality we maintained throughout online learning, with the Christmas Concerts – all held online last Sunday. Teachers and students are to be commended for their tenacity, their perseverance in tough and challenging times and for their continuing commitment to music in 2021. It has been a huge effort – the, now ubiquitous, word resilience – certainly applies.

It has been front and centre of all we have done and achieved together this year.

Sunday 5th December: Christmas Concerts 1,2 and 3 – were a celebration of this achievement.

At the midpoint of the concert, we paused to play Musical Bingo. Students had received Bingo cards prior to the concert and were poised ready for the fun.

Yi-Ling played Christmas songs on her cello. Students marked off their Bingo cards aiming for 4 in a row to win. Luciano and Archer both reachers the target. How to resolve the tie??? We forced them to play Rock, Paper, Scissors! Archer’s rock won over Luciano’s scissors. Archer was declare the winner.

The Concert continued with performances from Nicholas’ students. It was remarkable to witness students at both ends of the spectrum – from raw beginner to advanced competition level player. It is a credit to the talent and dedication of their wonderful teacher.

Licentiate level student of Nicholas Young, Lee Jie, recently won her first international piano competition. Nicholas watched her performance … then later demonstrated his own virtuosic talents playing excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet Suite.
